Advice on half iron nutrition

Hi all,

thinking about doing my first half iron this year and just looking for some tips on nutrition for during the race? What do people use, what frequency etc?

I know a lot is personal choice but just looking for ideas at this stage to test out.

  • God breakfast - porridge and or eggs


    3/4 Can of red bull 15 mins pre swim

    In T1 - 1 x gel and good gulp of water

    Gel every 40 mins and I go through 3x 500mls fluids on the bike. Might sneak in some chocolate flapjack too.

    In T2 - finish red bull - now flat so doesn't cause issues on the run. Gel - irrespective of when I last had one on th bike. Dash of water.

    Run - water as and when required - gels - not quite worked that out yet but went though 4 on my half

    but make sure u can handle the red bull before u take it! It has a nasty habit of repeating and could make u feel sick.
    I like RB though, really helps on long training runs, when u start to get sick of it after 2hrs or so....gets u concentrated again.
