Swimming Goggles

Hi all,

I'm training for my first triathlon this year. Wondered if somebody could recommend a decent pair of swimming goggles. I'm fed up spending money on goggles that leak, fogup and straps that dont work. Ideally I am after a large clear or yellow pair that are comfortable, wide visability and work in open water and the pool. Be great to hear your thoughts if anybody has good experience? - Thanks.

    Hi,

Well done for taking up the challenge of triathlon. I use Zoggs Predators with a light blue lens that works well in both the pool and open water. They don't leak for me, but as all head shapes are slightly different its worth trying them on if you can find someone to let you have a go.

    Good luck with the training.

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for this, I hadnt considered that brand so will hunt them down this weekend and give them a go. Thank you.

  • Hey there,

I have had some serious issues with this in the past, so much so i almost gave up swimming! I tired so many goggles i could almost start a shop(i think i went a little OTT!!) For me though what works now are the speedo performance goggles( i think thats the range not the exact model....)They were the best ones in the range and around £15 so a pretty standard price for a top end goggle. I've had them now for over 6 months and havent had a problem, no leaking/misting, and i dont even have to do them up tighly to ensure this, so over a long swim you dont come out looking like you've been boxing!

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Johnny,

Cheers for the tip. The latest pair I tried were actually Speedos (but not that range) Ive had speedos before and I remember them being okay. Perhaps I just a rouge pair, Ill give the Performance a go also.

Did you ever try Aqua Sphere Seal XP goggles?

I have a pair of aquasphere seals (not the XP though), and have raced with them for 2 years. Pretty much Flawless. Impossible to get them to leak, they suck onto your face that hard its difficult to get them off! Not very hydrodynamic though! And tend to steam without anti fog solution.

Just purchased some aquasphere eagles with prescription lenses - unbelievable goggles! Havent got them to steam yet, or leak and i can see properly !!! No more wrong turns in open water for me - i hope! plus they are a bit more streamlined. very happy with them.

The XP mask has helped my swimming greatly and given me alot more confidence (Im not an experienced swimmer).

I tried about 10 other types of goggles and non realy worked well for me. The Aquasphere Eagels even leaked , I think I must have an odd shaped face[:@]

11/10 I would rate the XP mask.. and then some![:)]

    Hi Rich / Phil,

It seems that certain goggles work for certain people. Although the Aquasphere

seem to be sold in alot of credible outlets. Plus many people use them. Im off to

TRIUK store this weekend so ill check some out. Maybe even try some out in their pool?

    Thanks for all your input!

Kaimen Aquasphere goggles are great. Sold on having a wider visibility then normal goggles, thought it was a bit of a con but now when I try other goggles I realise how limiting they are. Very good for having a good seal too.

Excellent idea, I went to Tri UK and got my wetsuit and Seal goggles from there. Their endless pool is excellent for trying out swimming products…..plus you can spend hours drooling over all the bikes! PS while your there I would get a little spray of anti fog solution, I personally found it invaluable while using my seals! A little spray bottle has lasted me well over a years swimming!!

Thanks for all the tips. In the end I went for a set of clear XP Aqua Sphere goggles from TRIUK. Perfect, good suction, easy grip and release on sides, good vision and dont fog.
  • I just have generic Speedo goggles. They seem good, but I have only used them in a pool, not open water.

Ive used speedo goggles in the past and whilst I found them ok, ive now transferred to the Aquasphere goggles. Ive got a few pairs as I keep losing them and finding them again. Kaimans are good for the pool and then I use the Seal XP for open water. Im tempted to try one of their wetsuits next, hopefully they will be as good as their goggles!!

I bought a pair of Aquaspehere Eagle Goggles from Wiggle. Not tried them, well apart from in front of my girlfriend who though I looked like a tit. but after reading the comments I can't wait to get in the pool with them.

I presume they are virtually the same as Aquasphere XP

I got the free one's you get when you subscribe to 220, amazing the difference they are making, fantastic goggles... of course the fact I've signed up for swimming lesson's is also helping.... ;-)

I have been using aquasphere kaiman goggles for a while now. I have found them really good - they don't ever seem to leak and if used with anti-fog spray they don't fog up.

The only problem I have is I keep leaving them in the shower at the pool, which is getting a bit expensive.

AquaSphere Seal XP's. Great fit, no panda eyes, and fantastic vision. Bit pricey, but worth the dosh.

I have a pair of Aquasphere eagles with the interchangeable lenses - flippin magic until they started to fog. Apparently a batch was manufactured without the anti-fog coating.

If you have any problems with them, I was advised to send them back to:

Mine are in the post - pity, apart from looking like a gimp, they were pretty damned impressive for almost an hour!!
  • Hi Guys,

I've just been reading this discussion about goggles and thought that I may be able to help some of you out!! I have recently launched a webshop: www.triathlonvision.co.uk and specialise in all sports eyewear specifically for triathletes, I have lots of feedback from all my customers and the Zoggs Predator goggle, Aquasphere Eagle and Zoggs Aquatech + goggle are all best sellers - mainly for comfort, antifog and visual performance reasons, with regards to masks the Predator masks sells extremely well and has lots of positive praise with comfort and vision again, we advertise in 220 mag and if you are club members we can offer club discounts and other incentives, I would love to go on more, but, basically the key thing is: The team at triathlonvision uses all products it sells and gives advice on everything it can! The prices are fair and we are prepared to match anyone elses prices, just to make a bit of a saving in a fairly expensive sport!!! Enjoy training and competing guys, maybe I'll see you at some future races!!!

AQUASPHERE XP used them for over a year, no problems
  • handyrobhandyrob Posts: 31
Aquasphere kaimains for the pool, the seal XP for open water, been using them for a year now and they are great, never leak or fog up. Treated myself to a couple of new pairs from SBR at London Tri

Incidentally, 220 reviewed a pair of Zoggs this month, not sure which ones but it didnt come out too good. Something about causing nausea?? I think ill stick to Aquasphere still!!!

    Hi again,

I’m Steve who originally posted this thread. Since then two triathlons later and third soon (first season). I have just purchased my third pair of Aquaseal XP mask. No other mask can touch them in my view.

I would recommend the Photochromatic if you can stretch to the price? They are fantastic for swimming in the sun. Taking the glare off the water and allowing you to sight! TRIUK were doing an offer and selling them for £12!

    Happy swimming.

  • Hi, hope you dont mind me jumping in here, I'm a total newbie to tri and I was wondering if any of you swim with contact lenses or would recommend perscription goggles? I wouldnt make it to transistion without lenses/glasses as blind as a bat!!

    Would appreciate any advice. Cheers

  • Good Tip.......

    If you find a pair of goggles that fit you well and are;

    Comfy

    Don't leak

    Don't mist up

Buy another pair before you need to, as you can guarantee that if you leave it until you need to they will no longer be produced.

I use Speedo Opal XS in the pool and open water and find them the best goggles I've ever had. When I went to get another pair off the web most sites said they were no longer made. So when I found some in JJB I bought all the pairs they had left (3)

There isn't an easy answer except to try different designs and see what fits on your face best.
