I have an absolutely excellent physio that I see every 4 weeks. I do my training in blocks of 4 weeks, 3 hard weeks then a recovery week. During the recovery week I slightly reduce the intensity of my training and also find time to see my physio for a deep sports massage. This has prevented me in getting any injuries in the 18 months I've been doing this!! More prevention than cure. Although he did work wonders when I had IT band issues 2 years ago.
Not a good idea to do something like this too close (ie a week) before a race, because I generaly feel slightly second hand after a seeing physio.
A gentle pre-race massage (stop laughing at the back.........) is fine though, I generaly get the wife to do this!!!!! [:D]
