Not happy......
Was happily commuting to work today going through Eltham (SE London). I was in the bus/cycle lane doing about 25mph(ish) when some twat overtakes me and cuts infront to turn down a side road.....needles to say carnage followed I hit his car and went from 25mph to 0mph in 3cm over the top of his car and onto the tarmac.........tarmac is very unforgiving
He stopped (very appologetic) called ambulance and police etc..... Ive got a lovely load of bruises and grazes (thanfully no breaks etc).
BUT!!!!
My lovely Focus Cayo is FOOKED!! the top tube just snapped clean in half such was the impact
Thing that pee'd me off was I usually commute using my fixie but thought I'd take the Cayo out for a ride instead..........bloody sods law!!
Am now pursuing an insurance claim, guess all the rest of my races will be done on my fixed wheel (have to put a freehub on it I think)
Hey-ho couldve been worse I suppose...............nice new forum by the way!!

Thats terrible, but the good thing is your ok. It could've been worse. At least your still able to compete this year and you've not broken anything...
The forum's getting better, still has some flaws though
I reckon we should step up the campaign to take the fight back to rubbish, stoopid and myopic drivers - how about we start lobbying the mayor to let us carry stun guns, pepper spray and the like? He's supposed to be pro-cyclist isn't he??
Hope the insurance comes through quickly and painlessly... Going for the same bike again?
So what bike are you looking at for a replacement?
hope your better soon
let's hope the insurance coughs up some and fast, the driver deserves the reminder not to do it again every time he renews his policy.
*flag at half mast for your bike*
Firstly, I am so glad you are around to tell the tale, regardless of the damage to bike.
Second, I hope the insurance goes OK and you can get something good out of it.
Third, I hope your confidence isn't dented. The exact same thing happened to me - but I was going uphill, so wasn't going so fast, and was able to bunny hop out of the way onto the pavement. It was a close thing. I did a risk assessment, and decided that commuting through the streets of Bradford was just too dangerous, and switched to running in the 8 miles instead.
she said the bike was fine but the rear tyre was pnuctured, frame ok, wheel ok then some waffle about her hand hurting blah leg something blah
Think of the new bike!
Hopefully in a couple of weeks you'll look back and think at least I got a new bike out of it
Second, I presume that the claim will extend to the cost of the Cayo's replacement. You probably lost the invoice but can show that the cost of a replacement Focus Cayo SRAM Expert is £1,799.99
Woke up late this morning and thought oh bugger it I will have to ride in, only to be totally wiped out along Woolwich Road. If the guy behind me on a MTB is a member of this forum I would like to thank him for stopping and offering me his water. The short version of what happened was that I was cycling along in the cycle lane and a car coming from the opposite direction turned into the side road to my left (their right) and BANG. I dont really remember what happened next other than the MTB rider talking to me as I lie in the road.
Just got back from A&E where they said I had no broken bones, which is good but the bike is a write off. Happy Friday!!!
You lived to tell the tale though, glad to hear you've not done any serious damage to yourself.
Did the guy who hit you stop? Can you claim on his insurance? Can you go round his house and beat the living crap out of him?
Take care people!
